Job Details

Performs all database functions across the enterprise including designing, implementing and maintaining new databases, backup/recovery, and configuration management. This includes providing database administration support, overseeing environment management, monitoring database health (e.g. proactive and reactive responses), resource planning, performing database upgrades and patching, providing backup/recovery, and making recommendations regarding enhancements and improvements. The Database Administrator will install, configure, and initiate software, and any other corresponding equipment; monitor and analyze system activities to ensure maximum performance, efficiency, and availability; and perform all related administrative tasks such as adding, removing, certifying new or existing user accounts and administering permissions and access rights. The Database Administrator evaluates current systems, and works on complex problems where analysis of situations requires in-depth evaluation of various factors. The Database Administrator completes assigned tasks of high complexity related to projects and technical requests, and provides Tier 3 support in all areas of the departmental service portfolio. The Database Administrator operates with a very high degree of self-direction once assigned work and functions with considerable independence.

Communicates in a professional, positive and timely manner in person, on the phone, and via electronic means. Represents the department and company in a positive and professional manner. Participates in the evaluation and estimation of work requests and projects. Oversees the orientation and mentoring of junior team members.

Adheres to all EMHS and departmental policies and procedures. Creates, follows, maintains and updates as necessary documentation and checklists to ensure efficiency and consistency. Uses advanced troubleshooting methodologies that provide efficient, effective resolution and minimize impact to the customer. Maintains detailed and accurate records in workload management, asset management and administrative applications. Adheres to deadlines.

Actively maintains education and cross-training on all departmental areas of expertise. Maintains required certifications and attends training when available and appropriate. Leads complex inter- and intra-departmental committees and groups. Represents the team and serves as technical advisor on complex projects.

Assists management in identifying opportunities for process improvement within and without the department. Assists customers with understanding total cost of ownership issues related to the systems supported within the departmental service portfolio.

Works conscientiously to minimize cost and time requirements in all areas of departmental responsibility.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's Degree and 12 years relevant experience, or Associate's degree and 14 years relevant experience, or 16 years relevant experience required.

• Master's Degree and 10 years relevant experience preferred.

• In-depth knowledge of Microsoft operating systems, Microsoft SQL Server 2008 / 2012, Intel server based hardware, and associated troubleshooting techniques.

• MCSE: Data Platform or MCSE: Business Intelligence certification preferred.

• MCSA: SQL Server 2012 certification and ability to obtain MCSE: Data Platform or MCSE: Business Intelligence certification within 1 year required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a professional business manner and ability to interact with people of differing professional levels.

· Highly proficient in the installation, maintenance, and Domain Administration of highly-available IT services on the two most recent versions of Microsoft Windows Server, to include application and database support.

· Experience installing and configuring the two most recent versions of Microsoft SQL Server

· Experiencing choosing and deploying the correct edition and features of MS SQL Server to meet a given set of business requirements.

· In-depth knowledge and experience supporting Microsoft Windows on x86 servers, and associated troubleshooting techniques.

· Highly proficient with PowerShell.

· Proficient with High Availability Technologies in a large production environment.

· Highly proficient with implementing and integrating new system architecture into an existing environment.

· Ability to interpret architecture and design configurations from vendors or other teams to enable clear implementation standards and guidelines.

· Ability to identify standard monitoring requirements and scripting or applying additional setting requirements.

· Experience using tools for monitoring performance and troubleshooting problems and outages

· Highly proficient with choosing, implementing, and monitoring a appropriate backup and recovery methodology for MS SQL Server.

· Highly proficient with T-SQL in MS SQL Server 2008 R2 or 2012 and the SQL:2011 standard

· Provide a sustainable data management infrastructure by supplying cross training and functional documentation.

Acts as backup for certain departmental leadership functions.

Physical Requirements

• Works in a normal office environment, requiring the ability to frequently respond to unpredictable situations.

• Works in wiring closets and utility spaces that may be warmer and/or have a higher ambient noise level than other areas, but not at such a level as to require protective clothing or equipment.

• Must be able to work and think independently.

• Occasional long and irregular hours

• Must be willing to travel by air and ground.

• Tolerance for frequent interruptions.
