Job Details Plans, organizes, directs, and controls the daily activities involved in the effective and efficient management of the OR schedule, providing continuous and high quality service for the perioperative patient. Works collaboratively with the anesthesiology medical director.

Makes assignments in conjunction with service group supervisors based on patient, surgeon, and anesthesiology requirements.

Participates in the development of scheduling policies and procedures and schedule preparation.

Monitors on-time case starts for both elective and assigned urgent/emergent cases.

Maintains active communication among surgeons, anesthesiology staff, nursing staff, sterile processing staff, and other ancillary departments, ensuring schedule progression and issue resolution.

Works to maintain the daily elective schedule as planned by implementing accurate schedule plans and a pre-established means of addressing urgent and emergent schedule access.

Proactively reviews future schedules (next day, three days, and one week in advance) with the lead scheduler to address the need for scheduling adjustments and coordinates advanced schedule situations with respective service group managers and anesthesiologists.

Works collaboratively with the service line supervisors, anesthesiology medical director, surgical medical director, anesthesiologist, CRNA, medical staff, and ancillary departments.

Essential functions:

Manages the day-to-day operations of running the OR schedule, including practice standards, staffing, and quality assurance.

Participates in schedule preparation, taking into consideration team limitations, case types, urgent/emergent demands, and case start times and lengths.

Collaborates with the anesthesiology medical director and anesthesiologist to ensure that the schedule runs efficiently in accordance with policies and procedures.

Serves as a professional leadership role model.

Provides direct patient care as needed.

Assures staff assignments are appropriate to the skill level of personnel.

Participates in hospital fire, safety, and disaster programs.

Supports and enforces infection-control policies and procedures.

Communicates effectively with the medical staff, nursing staff, and interdepartmental staffs.

Communicates routinely with service line suprevisors regarding the status of cases.

Makes rounds and maintains awareness of the level of patient care being performed in the pre-op and PACU areas.


Minimum education required:

Registered Nurse (RN) with valid state licensure required.

BSN required or obtained within 18 months of hire date.

Minimum experience required:

Three years of nursing experience required

Preferred experience:

Two years of operating room experience preferred.

Previous management experience preferred.

Other skills required:

Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification required

Certified Nurse in the Operating Room (CNOR) or acquired within one year of hire date.

Is able to direct others and negotiate for desired results.

Is able to work well as part of the leadership team.

Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Demonstrates decision-making and problem-solving skills.

Is clinically competent in the OR.

Demonstrates knowledge of computer systems and software.

Other skills preferred:

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.

Membership and participation in professional nursing and community organizations preferred.

Physical requirements: Light to medium carrying under 50 pounds, straight pulling, pushing, reaching above shoulders, stooping, walking long distances, standing for sustained periods of time, speaking, hearing (aid permitted), visual acuity including depth perception and field of vision correctable.

Working environment: Fast paced clinical environment.
