Job Details This description is representative of a Systems Administrator – Intermediate level. The successful candidate will be hired at a Systems Administrator level (Associate, Intermediate, or Senior) commensurate with education and experience.



Job Summary:

The Intermediate Systems Administrator supports Domain Administration in a Windows environment and provides operating system support in order to provide sustainable, stable and secure enterprise level servers including backup recovery, performance tuning, upgrades/patches, maintenance, troubleshooting, and permissions and file sharing. The Intermediate Systems Administrator evaluates current systems, and works on complex problems where analysis of situations requires in-depth evaluation of various factors. The Intermediate Systems Administrator completes assigned tasks of routine to moderate complexity related to projects and technical requests, and provides Tier 2 and Tier 3 support in all areas of the departmental service portfolio. The Intermediate Systems Administrator is largely self-directed once assigned work and functions with considerable independence.

Job Functions and Duties:

· The Intermediate Systems Administrator supports Domain Administration in a Windows environment and provides operating system support in order to provide sustainable, stable and secure enterprise level servers including backup recovery, performance tuning, upgrades/patches, maintenance, troubleshooting, and permissions and file sharing. The Intermediate Systems Administrator evaluates current systems, and works on complex problems where analysis of situations requires in-depth evaluation of various factors. The Intermediate Systems Administrator completes assigned tasks of routine to moderate complexity related to projects and technical requests, and provides Tier 2 and Tier 3 support in all areas of the departmental service portfolio. The Intermediate Systems Administrator is largely self-directed once assigned work and functions with considerable independence.

· The Intermediate Systems Administrator will deploy application, database, and desktop architecture in support of full client /server implementation using highly available technologies such as replication, load balancing, and geographic clustering. The Intermediate Systems Administrator will design, engineer, test, document, implement and support Windows Domains using traditional hardware and Virtual Server Host and Guest systems ensuring they are appropriately sized and configured for optimal use.

· Provides excellent customer service to all levels of employees including customers, peers, and leadership. Participates and engages in team meetings, team building activities, and other opportunities to strengthen the department. Leads by example. Acts as backup for certain departmental leadership functions.

· Communicates in a professional, positive and timely manner in person, on the phone, and via electronic means. Represents the department and company in a positive and professional manner. Participates in the evaluation and estimation of work requests and projects. Participates in the orientation of new team members.

· Adheres to all EMHS and departmental policies and procedures. Creates, follows, maintains and updates as necessary documentation and checklists to ensure efficiency and consistency. Uses advanced troubleshooting methodologies that provide efficient, effective resolution and minimize impact to the customer. Maintains detailed and accurate records in workload management, asset management and administrative applications. Adheres to deadlines.

· Actively maintains education and cross-training on all departmental areas of expertise. Maintains required certifications and attends training when available and appropriate. Leads small inter- and intra-departmental committees and groups as requested by supervisor.

· Assists management in identifying opportunities for process improvement within the department. Assists customers with understanding total cost of ownership issues related to the systems supported within the departmental service portfolio.

· Works conscientiously to minimize cost and time requirements in all areas of departmental responsibility.

· Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a professional business manner and ability to interact with people of differing professional levels.

• Experience in the installation, maintenance, and Domain Administration of highly-available IT services on the two most recent versions of Microsoft Windows Server, to include application and database support.

• In-depth knowledge and experience supporting Microsoft Windows on x86 servers, and associated troubleshooting techniques.

• Experience with PowerShell.

• Experience with Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop at a large, multi-site enterprise scale.

• Experience with hardware and software load balancer technologies, including Windows Load Balancing, and KEMP LoadMaster and/or Citrix NetScaler load balancers.

• Experience with Citrix NetScaler, including Access Gateway Enterprise Edition (AGEE) functions.

• Experience with High Availability Technologies in a large production environment.

• Experience in implementing and integrating new system architecture into an existing environment.

• Ability to interpret architecture and design configurations from vendors or other teams to enable clear implementation standards and guidelines.

• Ability to identify standard monitoring requirements and scripting or applying additional setting requirements.

• Experience using tools for monitoring performance and troubleshooting problems and outages

Physical Requirements:

• Works in a normal office environment.

• Works in wiring closets and utility spaces that may be warmer and/or have a higher ambient noise level than other areas, but not at such a level as to require protective clothing or equipment.

• Must be able to work and think independently.

• Occasional long and irregular hours

• Must be willing to travel by air and ground.

• Tolerance for frequent interruptions.

• Must be able to speak and communicate clearly and effectively.

• Must be able to hear speech.

• Must be able to adapt to frequently changing work priorities.

• Must be able to travel to various EMHS sites.

• Participate in periodic on-call rotation.

• This position may be eligible for situational offsite work.

Job Requirements:

Associate Level

• Associate Degree preferred, and 4 or more years of experience in a Computer Technology or related technical field are required. In lieu of degree an equivalent of 2 additional years' experience (6+ year's total) in Computer Technology or related technical field is required.

• Experience supporting Microsoft operating systems, Intel-based server hardware and with associated troubleshooting techniques.

• Ability to obtain Server+ certification within 6 months.

• Ability to obtain MCSA certification (Infrastructure track) within 12 months.

Intermediate Level

• Associate Degree; Bachelor Degree preferred, and 6+ years of experience in a Computer Technology or related technical field are required. In lieu of degree an equivalent of 4 additional years' experience (10+ year's total) in Computer Technology or related technical field is required.

• In-depth knowledge of Microsoft operating systems, Intel server based hardware, and associated troubleshooting techniques.

• Ability to obtain Server+ certification within 6 months.

• Ability to obtain MCSA certification (Windows Server 2008 and/or 2012) within 12 months.

Senior Level

• Bachelor Degree and 10+ years of experience in a Computer Technology or related technical field are required. In lieu of degree, an equivalent of 4 additional years' experience (14+ years total) in Computer Technology or related technical field is required

• In-depth knowledge of Microsoft operating systems, Intel server based hardware, and associated troubleshooting techniques.

• Ability to obtain Server+ certification within 6 months.

• Ability to obtain MCSE certification (Server Infrastructure or Private cloud) within 12 months.
