Job Details Maine RN license or eligible to obtain required. Masters Degree Required, MSN Preferred. Minimum of 5 years nursing experience required; emergency/critical care nursing experience preferred. Previous experience as a nurse leader preferred. BLS and ACLS required.

Patient care areas: CCU/CSU, ICU, ER

Supervises: Nurse managers and staff in CCU/CSU, ICU, ER, Trauma Care

Reports to: VP of Patient Care Services, Chief Nursing Officer

Position Summary: Responsible for planning and managing the human, material, equipment and fiscal resources for areas of responsibility and accountable for developing action plans to contribute to the organization's ability to carry out its mission and accomplish pillar goals. Provides direction and leadership for nurse leaders and staff. Responsible for oversight and direction of systems and processes related to nursing practice utiizing best practice guidelines, evidence based research, Joint Commission Standards and CMS Regulations. Monitors housewidePerformance ImprovementIndicators including Nursing Specific Indicators required byt he Maine Quality Forum.

Major Duties and Responsibilities: Responsible for safety ensuring that the department is free from recognized hazards that create a risk of injury to healthcare workers, patients and/or visitors. Supports and facilitates open and non-punitive communication between healthcare workers, patients and families regarding clinical and environmental safety on their unit and when interfacing with other units, groups and individuals. Supports and facilitates employee and non-employee healthcare workers in reporting and directly addressing patient and environmental safety concerns. Accountable for accident/injury prevention and investigation including root cause analysis as well as assisting in the return of injured workers to gainful employment.

Maintains excellent in customer service through measurement and improvement action plans. Ensures the efficient and effective operations of processes in the delivery of service/care for areas of responsibility. Accountable for budgeting and financial performance. Monitors compliance with legal and accrediting requirements related to areas of responsibility functions and services. Engages staff in providing and improving service delivery. Recognizes staff and others for contributions. Commits to assist in EMMC achieving its Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action goals. Conducts ongoing high, middle and low performer conversations with direct reports including appropriate follow up. Holds direct reports accountable for same with subordinate leaders and staff. Creates a self-development plan to improve leaders skills, competence and outcomes.

Monitors and reports housewide performance improvement indicators monthly. Assists Nurse Managers in the creation of 90-day action plans for indicators falling below acceptable thresholds. Reviews and updates the yearly Nursing Performance Improvement and Quality Assurance Plan and presents to the VP of Patient Care Services/CNO for approval.

Ensures nursing practice at EMMC follows best practice guidelines, evidence based research and Joint Commission Standards and CMS Regulations. Responsible for the oversight of financial management and performance for areas of responsibility. Is an effective leader and role model for implementing organizational change.

Excellent computer skills and knowledeg of electronic medical record. Effective change agent. Knowledge of finances and budgeting.

Light to medium carrying up to 50 lbs., straight pulling/pushing, reaching in all directions, stooping, walking long distances, standing, sitting, repetitive motion/finger activity for sustained periods of time, speaking, hearing, moderate phone contact, visual activity, long peridos of working on computer.
