Job Details Clinical specialists are leaders and role-models in their specialty areas and assure that care is being provided in the utmost safe, effective and fiscally prudent manner. These goals are accomplished through mentoring of Pharmacy staff, precepting of students, interdisciplinary patient rounding and committee work. Clinical Specialists must also be able to fulfill the duties and work responsibilities of Clinical Generalist Pharmacist.

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

Pharm.D. degree from accredited University



MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

PGY-1 with 2 years of experience or PGY-2

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Clinical Pharmacist with Internal Medicine Experience (2-5 years)



REQUIRED CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:

Maine Pharmacist Licensure

PREFERREDCERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:

Board of Pharmacy Specialties Certified, BLS

Qualifications

The Internal Medicine (IM) specialist position is responsible for providing evidence-based, patient-centered, safe, effective and cost conscious pharmaceutical care. The specialist will round with interprofessional teams with a focus on optimizing clinical outcomes. Functions include medication management, patient education, pharmacokinetic dosing, pain consults, anti-coagulation management, and responding to "code-strokes". This position also provides education for providers, nurses, pharmacists, students, and other health-care professionals on internal medicine related medication management issues. The IM specialist will assist in the preparation and implementation of pharmacy staff competencies related to internal medicine. The IM specialist will serve as a preceptor for the PGY-1 and PGY-2 programs and Pharmacy students about a third of their work time. The IM specialist serves as an active member on the Pharmacy and Therapeutics and the EMHS Formulary Management Committees and other organizational committees. Additional responsibilities are ability to perform the duties of a pharmacist generalist as necessary and participate in weekend call as part of a six-week rotation and other projects as assigned by the Clinical Manager, Pharmacy Operations Manager, or Director of Pharmacy.

Other Skills Preferred: Excellent written verbal and communication skills, Computer skills to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Physical Requirements: Capacity to concentrate in a busy and often stressful environment. Sitting and extended periods of standing and walking are required. This position entails extensive customer service and phone utilization; visual and auditory acuity, finger-wrist repetitive motion, and utilization of a computer/keyboard.

Working Environment: Fast paced clinical environment. Participation in unit specific and hospital wide activities that promote self and staff development. Participation in the development of unit specific strategic goals that assist with the fulfillment of the Eastern Maine Medical Center mission and vision.
