Summary: The ANM-(Clinical Education) develops, plans, implements and evaluates educational programs to meet the needs of Perioperative Services and to aide in the professional development of staff, including: 

·         maintaining open and active communication with the medical staff, patient care staff, and interdepartmental staff

·         ensuring the competency of all   staff and maintains departmental education records in compliance with regulatory guidelines

·         overseeing quality and infection control initiatives for  Perioperative Services

·         providing a comprehensive and technical orientation, education, and training program for staff

·         performing quarterly audits of employee records

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

The ANM-Educator will work collaboratively with Perioperative leaders to provide broad-based educational programs to meet the present and future needs of the department. To achieve the primary purpose of the department this employee must plan and direct the education process without specific instructions, collaborate with assistant managers, supervisors, and lead techs to prepare new employee orientation, work assignments, and communicate productivity objectives, according to departmental policy and procedure and guidance from the Director of Perioperative Services.

Responsibilities include:

1.       Development of training materials, monitoring of educational compliance with regulatory mandates, program planning, facilitation and development of continuing education and competency based programs.

2.       Understand and support the continuous performance improvement of provided services to ensure the goals of excellence in clinical outcomes and customer satisfaction are achieved.

3.       Evaluate new employee skill levels and maintain records of departmental staff proficiency.

4.       Ensure all employees competencies, performance evaluations and health stream in-service are 100% current at all times.

5.       Assist in communicating policy and procedure changes across Perioperative Services

6.       Provide on-the-job training to enable staff to consistently meet and/or exceed personal performance and departmental goals while providing services in an efficient, accurate, and professional manner.

7.       Provide input to employee performance appraisals as requested by department managers

8.        Schedule and document all in-service education, competency evaluations, and new employee orientation.

 

 

Essential Functions:

1.       Demonstrate a through working knowledge of the goals, objectives, and functions of the Perioperative Services. Must be familiar with operation of equipment, policy and procedures, and human resources. Knowledge of and experience of surgical instrumentation, sterilization practices, infection control standards, inventory control and other activities.

2.       Participate in the development and implementation of department performance improvement activities by facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration by using Performance Improvement and Continuous Quality Improvement methods and tools.

3.       Assist in 100% completion of all institutional mandatory regulation review, i.e. Joint Commission, HIPPA, safety and infection control.

4.       Reviews and updates departmental orientation and competency skills assessments tool and updates on a yearly basis.

5.       Assess and evaluate impact and effectiveness of process changes on quality and initiatives, plans and programs.

6.       On-going education of all Perioperative staff obtaining certification and CEU's.

7.       Create and maintain staff skills matrix assessment to ensure competencies.

8.       Evaluate and assess new hires and trainees' work performance.

9.       Coordinate with the Perioperative Services leaders to schedule and orient new employees.

10.   Ensure collaboration with vendors to train and conduct in-services to staff.

11.   Track in-services and maintain employees' attendance records of same

12.   Develop continuous improvement strategy to optimize Perioperative Services' capabilities and efficiencies.

13.   Provides guidance on the utilization of the quality improvement tools and intervention based the identified gap.

14.   Support Perioperative Services' leaders in reviewing and updating the department's policies and procedures.

15.   Deploy industry's best practices and integrating with organizations such as AAMI, IASCHMM, and AORN to create best practices.

16.   Participates in or leads Operative and Invasive Workgroup or workgroups in special projects as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree required, Masters in specialty preferred. CNOR within 6 months of hire. ACLS.

Licensure: Must maintain a valid Maine Registered Nurse License

Certification: Demonstrated expert clinical skills in area of specialty; current certification in specialty required.

Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience; preferably in an Operating Room. Experience in program planning, development of competency based education, curriculum development, teaching to large and small groups. Must have experience in developing staff, ability to think conceptually, excellent skills in problem solving and group process, and basic skills in MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Skills/Other:

Excellent communication skills: written, verbal, and interpersonal. Must be a self-starter and change management. Demonstrate an independent work initiative, strong organizational ability and sound supervisory skills. Possess knowledge and experience sufficient to assume technical, professional, organizational and educational responsibilities for managing personnel. Capable of developing, implementing, monitoring, and acting on Quality Assessment and Improvement controls.

 Physical Demands:

Light to medium carrying up to 50Ibs, pulling/pushing, reaching in all directions, stooping, walking long distances, standing, sitting, repetitive motion/finger activity for sustained periods of time, speaking, hearing, moderate phone contact, visual acuity, long periods of working on computer.
