Job Details Reporting to the OR clinical manager, the service line assistant nurse manager is responsible for a group of services and should have expertise in at least one of those services. The s nurse manager service line assistant has full personnel and surgical service responsibility for delegated service lines. The service line coordinator's time is divided between management responsibilities (85%-90%) and clinical assignments (10%-15%). Clinical assignment is provided primarily through break and lunch relief, and vacation and sick time coverage for team members.

The service line assistant nurse manager role includes:

Sharing responsibility for the hiring, managing, evaluating and assigning RNs, STs and ORA's with the OR Manager. Overseeing orientation, training, and development of service line personnel to ensure that all staff members are able to comfortably perform high-volume, high-risk, and highly technical cases. Developing complementary, measurable, competency-based, service-specific orientations in collaboration with the OR educator. Assuring that RN and ST staff are developed, trained and maintained for service line and weekend call program. Assuring that Team Leaders review and revise preference cards to target a utilization percentage of 85% or better in collaboration with Physician Consultant. Reviewing the next day's scheduled cases and corresponding preference cards in conjunction with the team leader to ensure that specific case needs are identified and addressed. Participates in daily huddle to review schedule. Making room assignments appropriate to the skill level of service line team members in conjunction with the Control Desk Coordinator with input from team leader. Managing and monitoring service line groups' day to day operational efficiencies in the areas of perioperative patient flow, room turnover, and case setup. Assuring the coordination of trials and new product evaluation for all service lines including completion of cost benefit analysis, trial evaluation process and report back to Surgical Services Product Review Committee. Developing and maintaining all inter-and intradepartmental policies and procedures as they related to service line teams. Communicating the coordination of the perioperative process (pre/intra/post) with all members of the perioperative team. Acting as the liaison between the perioperative team and the patient family. Facilitating the process of communicating the status of the rooms within their service line area in order to maximize efficiency in the daily operations within the OR. ( All activities within or, turnovers, breaks/lunch, instrumentation, late, etc.)

Minimum education required: Registered Nurse (RN) with valid state licensure required or eligibility to obtain Maine RN License required.BSN required or obtained within 18 months of hire date.

Minimum experience required: Three years of nursing experience required

Preferred experience: Two years of operating room experience preferred. Previous management experience preferred.

Other skills required: Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification required. Certified Nurse in the Operating Room (CNOR) or acquired within one year of hire date. Is able to direct others and negotiate for desired results. Is able to work well as part of the leadership team. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrates decision-making and problem-solving skills. Is clinically competent in the OR. Demonstrates knowledge of computer systems and software.

Other skills preferred: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred. Membership and participation in professional nursing and community organizations preferred.

Physical requirements: Light to medium carrying under 50 pounds, straight pulling, pushing, reaching above shoulders, stooping, walking long distances, standing for sustained periods of time, speaking, hearing (aid permitted), visual acuity including depth perception and field of vision correctable.

Working environment: Fast paced clinical environment.
