Job Details POSITION SUMMARY: The Risk Management Coordinator will be one of three coordinators whose responsibilities focus on hospital compliance with the state Sentinel Event mandatory reporting program, including RCA (Root Cause Analysis) investigations. The coordinator will also assist with the Risk Management surveillance activities to identify potential sentinel events and/or adverse events that may lead to liability claims. This involves extensive reviews and investigation of events submitted in the RL Solutions Risk Events software as well as other sources of trigger events from EMR data-mining screening tools. The ability to communicate knowledgably and tactfully across the medical center with medical staff and nursing leadership as well as front line and support personnel for investigation and follow-up on screening criteria/quality review cases and action plans generated in RCAs is essential. The coordinator will also assist the Director with litigation related activities including defense attorney assistance, attendance at depositions or court cases in absence or at the direction of the Director as assigned. The coordinator will also participate in a variety of hospital committees involved with patient safety and error prevention and will also participate in providing risk management education and orientation regarding our department and mission.



Work experience in healthcare quality/performance improvement or legal/claims setting desirable. CPHRM (Certified Professional Healthcare Risk Management) preferred

OTHER SKILLS REQUIRED: Maintain an active program of self -study and learning to enhance professional skills and to stay current with risk management fundamentals/trends as well as technological changes to enhance department objectives. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Ability to communicate with wide variety of hospital personnel at all education and job levels and maintain professional attitude and high level of discretion. Ability to write reports and business correspondence and conduct efficient telephone communications. Ability to listen well, define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to recognize need for assistance and boundaries of responsibilities and authorities. Computer proficiency including Outlook, word processing, database and spreadsheet software.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to perform multiple office work functions with keyboard/computer, telephone, and other usual office equipment. Extensive reading and paper handling/filing. Sufficient mobility to attend frequent meetings both on and off campus, visit patients/family, and assist in risk investigations and quality/performance improvement activities.
