Job Details Job Summary: EMMC is looking for a tech-savvy marketer whose creative streak is tempered by the understanding that our remarkable patient care will be our primary focus. Our new communications specialist will be the perfect dichotomy of all things mar-comm. They will be details-oriented, yet have a good handle on the big picture. They'll be adept at writing clean, professional copy but, will be fearless in bouncing innovative, and occasionally off-the-wall, ideas off the rest of the community relations team. He or she will be serious and methodical about documenting, designing, and delivering and yet, will prioritize projects so that breaking news stories can be timely and accurate. Moreover, our new communications specialist will be a cutting-edge video editing guru with an eye for likes and shares while understanding that telling patients' stories is a duty we still feel honored to convey to all audiences every day.

General duties:

· Responsible for marketing and public relations efforts at Eastern Maine Medical Center as assigned by department leadership, using awareness of brand identity to assure integration with other departmental and system efforts, conferring with leadership and colleagues as necessary to accomplish this coordination.

· In all arenas present professional, friendly demeanor, be cooperative and helpful, establishing realistic expectations for whatever service you are providing, whether it is to the public, EMHS employees, or fellow staff members.

· Phone coverage as needed.

· Arrive on time and attend regular staff meeting, contributing expertise and suggestions to fellow team members as appropriate.

· Respond as necessary to help fellow team members meet difficult deadlines, including staffing special events and providing coverage and support at meetings.

· Work with colleagues and outside consultants to assure clear communication and smooth handoffs of projects with appropriate follow up.

· Maintain professional affiliations and attend relevant educational opportunities as the budget allows.

· Provide occasional off-hour coverage.

· Secure appropriate paperwork and purchase orders for services to ensure appropriate billing.

· Staff events as needed, provide photographs and copy for newsletters, escort media.

Copywriting and storytelling

· Provide professional writing and editing without factual or typographical errors in a variety of media, including printed material, broadcast scripts, and web copy.

· Demonstrate ability to translate pertinent healthcare information for presentation to internal and external audiences.

· Meet established deadlines.

· Follow established protocols in securing interviews and photographs, including appropriate informed consent forms.

· Present all work for timely and appropriate review by colleagues and director. Serve as editor and proofreader for team members' copy.

· Write and edit according to departmental writing style guide.

Strategic communications

· Develop results-oriented communication plans.

· Align with strategic plans.

Project management

· Establish immediate contact with client upon receipt of project assignment.

· Establish project timeline and projected completion date.

· Report project progress to project coordinator on a weekly basis.

· Alert project coordinator and director to any deviations from project timeline.

· Work with project coordinator to assure customer of project progress.

· Arrange for appropriate purchase orders and other paper work in place in a timely manner.

· Establish and work with appropriate priorities when managing multiple assignments.

· Layout/design as assigned and appropriate, requiring word processing and proficiency with InDesign.

· Planning with organizations strategic goals.

· Advise clients on web based self-help tools, and assist in securing outside support for projects that CR can't manage internally.

· Submit all completed projects for appropriate archiving.

· Document project specifications, progress notes, time spent, and special issues.

· Project management system.

Media relations

· Produce timely, professionally written news releases without factual or typographical errors.

· Respond in a timely fashion to media requests as assigned, with awareness of critical media deadlines.

· Record media contacts in departmental electronic log.

· Provide patient condition reports as necessary, in accordance with EMMC policy and federal and state law.

· Provide escort to visiting media crews.

· Cultivate relationships by offering story ideas.

· Prepare interviewees for encounters with media.

Events planning

· Maintain accurately filled out Events Planning Checklist for all events for which CR is chiefly responsible.

· Contribute to written copy, layout, distribution of invitations, agendas, fliers, etc. as required.

· Contribute to planning of event agenda, support planning as necessary.

· Secure media awareness of event, and facilitate media coverage of event as deemed appropriate.

Photography and Multimedia production

· Take well composed photos as necessary for marketing and advertising efforts.

· Serve as videographer for planned events and interviews as needed.

· Perform basic video edits using Premiere Pro.

Position requirements:

· Bachelor's degree and three to five years' experience or Associate's degree with ten years' experience required.Accreditation in public relations (APR) is desired.

· Must provide own means to transportation in which to travel frequently between member organization clients.

· Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office XP, and the Adobe Creative suite.

Physical Demands: extensive walking, a large amount of keyboarding and work with a computer mouse, and some occasional lifting; Light to medium carrying up to 50lbs., straight pulling/pushing, reaching in all directions, stopping, walking long distances, standing, sitting, repetitive motion/finger activity for sustained periods of time, speaking, hearing, moderate phone contact, visual activity

Working Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job in a normal office environment. The noise level in the environment is usually moderate. Must be able to travel throughout the EMHS hospital system with occasional variable hours.
