Job Summary: The Network Telecomm Engineer is responsible for the installation, support, and maintenance of all EMHS network communications, including but not limited to LAN/WAN, wireless, telecommunications, and unified communications systems at a high level. The engineer evaluates current systems, and works on complex problems where analysis of situation requires in-depth evaluation of various factors. The engineer completes assigned tasks of routine to moderate complexity related to projects and technical requests, and provides Tier 1 and Tier 2 support in all areas of the departmental service portfolio. TheNetwork Telecomm Engineer is largely self-directed once assigned work and functions with considerable independence.

Job Functions and Duties:

The Network Telecomm Engineer is responsible for the installation, support, and maintenance of all EMHS network communications, including but not limited to LAN/WAN, wireless, telecommunications, and unified communications systems at a high level. The engineer evaluates current systems, and works on complex problems where analysis of situation requires in-depth evaluation of various factors. The engineer completes assigned tasks of routine to significant complexity related to projects and technical requests, and provides Tier 1 and Tier 2 support in all areas of the departmental service portfolio. The Network Telecomm Engineer is largely self-directed once assigned work and functions with considerable independence.

Provides excellent customer service to all levels of employees including customers, peers, and leadership. Participates and engages in team meetings, team building activities, and other opportunities to strengthen the department. Leads by example. Acts as backup for certain departmental leadership functions. As assigned by leadership, may direct other staff in the coordination of projects

Communicates in a professional, positive and timely manner in person, on the phone, and via electronic means. Represents the department and company in a positive and professional manner. Participates in the evaluation and estimation of routine work requests and minor projects. Participates in the orientation of new team members.

Adheres to all EMHS and departmental policies and procedures. Creates, follows, maintains and updates as necessary documentation and checklists to ensure efficiency and consistency. Uses advanced troubleshooting methodologies that provide efficient, effective resolution and minimize impact to the customer. Maintains detailed and accurate records in workload management, asset management and administrative applications. Adheres to deadlines.

Actively maintains education and cross-training on all departmental areas of expertise. Maintains required certifications and attends training when available and appropriate. Leads small to complex inter- and intra-departmental committees and groups as requested by supervisor. Senior level engineer represents the team on complex projects.

Assists management in identifying opportunities for process improvement within the department. Assists customers with understanding total cost of ownership issues related to network and telecomm systems.

Works conscientiously to minimize cost and time requirements in all areas of departmental responsibility.

Education and Experience

Intermediate level

• Associate's degree and 6+ years of experience in a related technical field are required; bachelor's degree preferred. In lieu of degree, an additionalfour (4) years' experience (10+ years' total) in a related technical field is required.

• Ability to obtain Network+ certification within 3 months required.

• Ability to obtain CCNA (Routing and Switching) within 6 months required; CCNP certification within 18 months required.

Senior Level

•Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of experience in a related technical field are required. In lieu of degree, an additional four (4) years' experience (14+ years total) in a related technical field is required.

• Network+ and CCNA certifications required.

• Ability to obtain CCDA within 2 years required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a professional business manner and ability to interact with people of differing professional levels.

• Experienced to proficient in design, setup and configuration of network router/switch and converged voice technologies from an engineering perspective. LAN protocols to include VLAN, STP, QoS etc. Experience with IP addressing (IPv4 subnets and supernets)

• Understanding to proficiency innetwork and telecommunications transport technology (SIP, MPLS, ATM, ELAN, PRI, T-1 etc.), network routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, HSRP etc.), and network tunneling protocols at a high level (IPsec, IPsec over GRE etc.)

• Experienced to proficient indesign, setup and configuration of wireless networking using Cisco and Aruba gear that supports open or secured access and the ability to support voice and video applications.

• Experienced to proficient in the setup and support of VoIP phone systems.

• Experienced to proficient inconfiguration and setup of multi-vendor Firewalls and Security appliances for access to vital business applications, site-to-site and client VPN connections.

• Experience using network performance tools for monitoring performance and troubleshooting network problems and outages

Acts as backup for certain departmental leadership functions.
As assigned by leadership, may direct other staff in the coordination of projects

Reports to the Manager of Network Telecomm Services.

All levels of customers at EMHS including peers, leadership, clinical and administrative staff.

Physical Requirements

• Works in a normal office environment, requiring the ability to frequently respond to unpredictable situations.

• Works in wiring closets and utility spaces that may be warmer and/or have a higher ambient noise level than other areas, but not at such a level as to require protective clothing or equipment.

• Must be able to work and think independently.

• Must be willing to travel by air and ground.

• Tolerance for frequent interruptions.

• Must be able to speak and communicate clearly and effectively.

• Must be able to hear speech.

• Must be able to adapt to frequently changing work priorities.

• Must be able to travel to various EMHS sites.

• Participate in periodic on-call rotation.

• Must be able to lift etc.
