Job Details Job Summary:

The Charge Entry Specialist is responsible for ensuring all charges are received and processed timely for all Adult Outpatient services. Duties include obtaining billing sheets from all departments, accurately posting charges and completing daily charge reconciliations. Works closely with Patient Account Services to resolve any charge questions. Perform any duties and/or responsibilities assigned by Manager or Supervisor for which qualified.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:

Expert ability to add specific data such as modifiers, payer information, including authorization criteria, CPT and ICD-10 code.

Reduce denials by correct use of modifiers, mapping, and linking codes with services.

Work with clients and group to facilitate information and resolve charge questions.

Achieve goal of a 2 business day turnaround batch time.

Communicates charge issues with other departments as needed and provides feedback to improve charge capture moving forward.

Report any billing deficiencies to the medical staff providers and the manager of the medical staff practices.

Communicates any identified charge issues to the supervisor.

Meets productivity and guideline for charge entry to ensure that the charges are completed in a timely fashion.

Supports the Billing and Customer services team as needed.

Reconciles provider schedules with billing sheets.

Tracks and recovers late billing sheets by provider.

Reconciles the charge reports and validates that charges are complete, accurate, for every encounter in a timely fashion.

Monitors the charge entry system to pull forward errors to applicable staff for resolution. Communicates any resolved errors to Patient Accounts.

Adheres to Charge Reconciliation policy.

Enters diagnosis codes into Cerner as indicated by Providers.

Complete daily administrative tasks; mail and paperwork, answer phone/door, distribute faxes, reporting

Adheres to HIPAA policies and procedures in order to protect privacy and security.

Receive and/or collect charge entry data from departments.

Adheres to Hospital Attendance policy.

Other duties as assigned.

Assist in maintaining a work environment free from recognized hazards that create a risk of injury to employees, patients or visitors and that all accidents and incidents are reported by employees and properly investigated. When appropriate, assist with the return of all workers with work related injuries and illnesses to gainful employment.

Must have attention to detail and be able to analyze data for accuracy and completeness based on set standards. Must be able to cope with deadlines and meet productivity and quality expectations. Ability to make basic numerical calculations. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner in the community. Maintains regulatory requirements, including JCAHO, Federal and State. Complies with all organizational policies regarding EMHS's Code of Conduct and ethical business practices. Complete Healthstream Mandatory Education on a yearly basis. Attend all mandatory safety related education programs. Follow safety procedures to prevent injury to self and others. Carry assigned keys and wears hospital ID badge at all times. Refrain from the abuse of chemicals.

Regulatory Requirements:

Language Skills

Must possess good oral and written communication skills in the English language.

Physical Demands:

Visual acuity, color vision, hearing acuity, and tactile sensation are necessary to respond to patient response and requests. The ability to read and speak English, to communicate and document information. Must possess the manual dexterity and a degree of body strength and flexibility to respond to aggressive patient behavior. The ability to reach and stretch intermittently. Time may be spent sitting at a computer, collaborating with other healthcare team members. Standing and walking comprises some of the workday.
