Job Summary:

A Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) anticipates and facilitates the handling of surgical instruments, supplies and equipment necessary for Surgeon's to provide optimal patient care during surgical procedures. The incumbent has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon while constantly keeping vigil for maintenance of sterile field. CST's cross train and work in the Sterile Processing Department to maintain the continuity of sterile technique and instrumentation necessary to promote excellence of the surgical program. The incumbent performs duties and tasks in accordance with performance standards established for the job. The incumbent may have access to highly confidential patient, employee and/or Mercy proprietary information, and must handle & protect the information in accordance with hospital & system policies, HIPAA requirements and the highest level of ethical standards. The incumbent is responsible for reporting all security events, potential events, or other security risks to the organization.The incumbent is responsible for participation in and completion of all patient safety initiatives appropriate to the position, and conducts all job responsibilities according to the Mission and Values of Mercy Hospital.

Job Requirements:

Healthcare Provider/Professional Rescuer certification is required. Graduate of Surgical Technology School is required and National certification required. Knowledge of aseptic techniques and operating room standards and procedures required. Incumbent must have the ability to concentrate on detail and adjust quickly to changes.
